DENVER — Banded Oak Brewing Company will release Cabernet Barrel Aged Belgian Dark Strong on Saturday, March 10th at 12 p.m. This behemoth of a beer matured for six months in French oak cabernet barrels.
“We knew when we received these cabernet barrels that we needed a big beer and this one fits the bill perfectly,” said Will Curtin owner at Banded Oak.
A 2017 Denver International Beer Competition double gold winner, Cabernet Barrel Aged Belgian Dark Strong is balanced by tannins from grape skin and oak. The opening is reminiscent of a port or dessert wine, and leads into flavors of dark fruits, syrups, and sour cherries. At 12.4 percent ABV, this complex beer is deceivingly drinkable.
Cabernet Barrel Aged Belgian Dark Strong will be available in a limited release of 750 mL bottles for $18 each, and on draft starting on March 10th at 12:00 p.m.
“This is the type of beer where your brain won’t be able to articulate what your tongue is tasting,” said Curtin. “You’ll have an interesting time trying to define this crossbreed.”
