Overview: Very very small production brewery in Boise. Proud Veteran owned and local family run. Bear Island specializes in unique and balanced brews with local flair. Check out our website: Bearislandbrewing.com to see where we're on tap! Where'd we get the name?? "Bear Island" is a fictitious name based on a family story. When young, the Westover children were afraid of running into a bear up at their cabin in Cascade, ID. So their parents told them that all of the bears would chase the deer out onto the frozen lake in the winter, where the bears would get tired and hibernate. When they woke up in the spring, the lake had thawed, the deer were gone and the bears were stuck out there! Hence the nickname of "Bear Island." Now we are naming our brewery after our story. (And now that we are older, we believe the bears just sit out there and drink craft beer, it only makes sense).
