Moses Lake, Wash. – The Russell Family, owners of the iconic Lake Bowl since 1957, are breaking ground on property adjacent to the bowling alley to build a new 7,500 barrel brewery capable of expanding quickly to 21,000 barrels. The new facility will be the home of Ten Pin Brewing.

Ten Pin Brewing Company is a family operation built on a legacy that spans nearly sixty years of business rooted their success in innovation, quality and community. The history and depth provides the foundation as the Russell family’s third generation looks to the future with a state-of-the-art brewery and a mission to throw a strike with every batch.

“Bowling provides our roots but the future is clear and craft beer takes the lead. Ten Pin Brewing will be focused on brewing quality, interesting, desirable styles, growing our community and setting a standard for modern craft beer.” – stated Lake Bowl Inc. CEO, B.J. Garbe

Ten Pin Brewing breaks ground this week and anticipates it will start brewing test batches in late November. Full production is slated to begin in early March with the first kegs, cans and bottles going out the door by month’s end.

Sales and marketing efforts already show positive demand for Ten Pin Brewing’s beers in markets from Spokane to Portland. Talks with distributors have begun and packaging is ready for market.

“Scaling up our production from the current 3 barrel system to 7,500 barrels will take a bit of trial and error but we’ll be up and running once the custom brew house is in place.” added Head Brewer Jim Madden a former chemical engineer who is no stranger to the formulas and projections needed to ramp up production.

Ten Pin Brewing is garnering a growing collection of medals and recognitions for their brewing and this past summer provided clear confirmation on which brews they will launch with. “We know which of our most popular beers will be out to a broader market first but I can’t say just yet as all the product details are under wraps until we launch next Winter,” noted BJ. “I can say that people can look forward to sunny days and IPAs ahead.”

The family has aligned a strong team to get the brewery up and running including architect firm Meier, Inc. and Chervenell Construction both of Kennewick, Ferment Marketing from Portland, Oregon and Washington Trust Bank. The new can and bottle label is designed by Now Design located in Salem Oregon and sales support is being provided by Alluvial Beverage Company from Portland. The Ten Pin Brewing support team is lead by B.J. Garbe and is focused on having all elements in place for the March launch.

B.J. Garbe, CEO

B.J. is a man with focus and tenacity, something rooted in his years playing professional baseball for the Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners and Florida Marlins. A Moses Lake native, B.J. returned to his hometown after completing studies at Oregon State University and soon took the helm of Lake Bowl Inc. as CEO. Intent on carrying forward a legacy of innovation and growth, he soon saw parallels between his home brewing and love of craft beer and the future of his family’s business. B.J. took a calculated step with a three-barrel system built into Lake Bowl, the family’s bowling alley built in 1957, and Ten Pin Brewing was born. Now, with Jim Madden in place as head brewer, B.J. is ready to go fire up a new seven thousand, five-hundred barrel facility slated to start filling cans and kegs in March of 2016.

Jim Madden, Head Brewer

Jim can guide you along the Appalachian Trail, tell you the best skinny-dipping spots from Pennsylvania to Mexico and on North to Alaska, and provide hours of entertainment lecturing about polymerization. The man holds multiple patents from his work at Union Carbide and DOW Chemical. Needless to say, a chemical engineer by trade and adventurer by nature, Jim brings a technically creative approach to his twenty plus years as a home brewer. Before joining Ten Pin, Jim was brewing the largest legal batches at home and typically had six to eight taps flowing in his house. Jim has already won multiple home brewer medals and awards and has begun picking up even more with his Ten Pin beers.

Lake Bowl has been in operation since 1957 and has been at the center of the family’s extended business interests including the nearby AmeriStay Inn and Suites, Papa’s Sports Lounge and the  Porterhouse Steakhouse. A Moses Lake icon, Lake Bowl provides the both the physical and historical foundation to Ten Pin Brewing.
