Charlottesville, VA — Starr Hill Brewery sees brewing beer much like making music. A Brewmaster writes a song, or a recipe, using a harmonious combination of ingredients. A band of brewers then performs on various instruments to lay down a take in the studio. Beer, like music, is also at its best when shared with others. Brewing beer can be even more fun by joining with different players, each bringing new experiences and influences to create something unique. That’s why Starr Hill is embarking on Collaboration Tour 2015 with seven different craft breweries from around the country and the world.
Headlining the Collaboration Tour is a trip across the Atlantic for the Starr Hill team to brew with Ireland’s largest craft brewer, Carlow Brewing Company/O’Hara’s Brewery. The connection between the breweries from opposite sides of the pond was inspired in part by the award-winning Irish Stout brands they both craft. On tap for this collaboration, however, is a Session Red IPA to be released in Ireland on July 4th in celebration of American and Irish independence. Carlow/O’Hara’s will also travel to Virginia in early 2016 to produce a US-based collaboration to be released on St. Patrick’s Day next year. In addition to the festivities, each trip is an opportunity to learn about growing craft beer communities in each country.
Stateside, Starr Hill will also be celebrating Independence Day with Young Veterans Brewing Company from Virginia Beach. “One Starr Generale” is a Single Hop Pale Ale to be released in honor of the national holiday. Additional stops on the tour include a gig at Sloss Fest in Birmingham, Alabama with Trim Tab Brewing to brew a Session IPA for the festival. Hardywood Park Craft Brewery will join Starr Hill in creating a Hopfenweisse beer for Virginia Craft Beer Month in August. The tour continues this fall with DC Brau for an English-style Ordinary Bitter and Brothers Craft Brewing for a Habanero Mango IPA.
Breckenridge Brewery will travel to Virginia this fall to brew the second leg of a collaboration following Starr Hill’s visit to Denver this past March. To kickoff Collaboration Tour 2015, Starr Hill and Breckenridge brewed “Snow Your Oats” Chocolate Oatmeal Stout. The beer was featured at the Colorado Collaboration Festival, during Colorado Craft Beer Month, and brewed with locally sourced Virginia oats and 200 pounds of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory dark chocolate. Many beers from Collaboration Tour 2015 will be available at the Starr Hill Brewery Tap Room. Tune in to Starr Hill social media accounts for updates.
