Finally a beer company has creatively used a QR code.
Guinness recently began distributing pint glasses that, when filled with Guinness (or any dark beer), reveals a special QR pattern. After scanning, the code reportedly can tweet your pint, update your facebook status, check you in on foursquare and download special coupons and promotions.
We’ve seen our fair share of QR codes on beer labels, 12-packs and in print ads but most aren’t particularly notable. A majority of QR codes direct a consumer to an existing web page or youtube clip, and fail to offer the customer a memorable experience.
With this creative marketing endeavor, Guinness has given the consumer a chance to have an experience at the on-premise level, something most beer companies have ignored until now.
The few Irish bars we contacted in the Boston area hadn’t received the pints yet. If you’ve seen one at your local pub, drop us a line in the comment section.
