Milton, Del. — Dogfish Head is kicking off the New Year with a throwback release of one of its most popular seasonal beers. Olde School Barleywine, a classic, ageable ale, will be reintroduced into the world starting January 3, 2017, bringing unfiltered depth and fruity righteousness to worthy beer lovers across the universe, aka the clever 31 states + D.C. that sell delicious Dogfish Head Craft Brewery beers.

An instant classic since its 2002 debut, the bold, yet smooth Olde School is a beautifully balanced ale, dark red to amber in color, with a sweet and velvety flavor profile and huge complexity and warmth. “Our approach was to do a new world take on traditional English barleywine,” says Dogfish Head president and founder, Sam Calagione. “American style barleywines tend to be more hop-forward while, in comparison, English barleywines are malt-forward and develop their fruity attributes from the esters. When properly aged, the pit-fruit and sweet, sherry characteristics mature into something spectacular.”

Clocking in at about 15% ABV, this big barleywine is an ideal candidate for cellaring and Olde School ages with the best of them! Over time, the beer dries out which allows the pit fruit flavors to come forward and the hops to recede into the background. As it matures, Olde School develops oxidative characteristics, including honey and toffee flavors and aromas, and lessened bitterness. Our recommendation to ensure liquid prosperity and happiness for the New Year? Grab a couple bottles of Olde School to enjoy with someone you love – now and through the years.
