Beer Institute Appoints New Senior Director of Science and External Affairs

The Beer Institute has announced the hiring of Joy Dubost, a food scientist and registered dietitian who will help lead the group’s lobbying efforts and develop regulatory positions.

Dubost will serve as the organization’s new senior director of science and external affairs, working closely with those on Capitol Hill to help shape scientific policies that impact brewers. She replaces Christina Hartman who in 2013 was hired to lead beer policy and external affairs.

“Joy’s ability to understand the products, and the complex regulatory environment that governs them, will be valuable as we navigate key issues and programs like the U.S. Dietary Guidelines, menu labeling and our responsibility initiatives,” BI president Jim McGreevy said in a statement.

Dubost previously served as the senior director of nutrition for the National Restaurant Association. She’s worked in the areas of nutrition and food science for more thanfor 15 years and joins the BI just days after Chris Thorne, the group’s former vice president of communications, announced his departure.

The Beer Institute is a trade organization representing the interests of domestic brewers and international beer importers.
