Six Rivers Brewery Creates Tin Pants Ale for Humboldt State’s Centennial

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. — Six Rivers Brewery has created a limited release beer named Tin Pants Ale to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Humboldt State University (HSU).

“Meredith and I love working with and supporting with the university, so naturally we wanted to create a very special beer for the Centennial,” said Talia Nachshon who graduated from HSU in 2000 with a degree in Recreation Administration.

Brewery co-owners, Meredith Maier and Nachshon, turned to their award-winning brewmaster, Carlos “Los” Sanchez, to craft a memorable beer that would be reflective of what one might imbibe during HSU’s founding year of 1913.

“Our Tin Pants Ale is a California Common Beer brewed in old San Francisco tradition dating back to the late 1800s. Six Rivers Brewery is proud to re-create this historic ale in honor of HSU’s 100th anniversary,” said Sanchez.

Before refrigeration was commonplace Lager beer was fermented at a warmer temperature, which resulted in a beer that had the characteristics of both Ale and Lager. The original name “Steam Beer” is thought to have come from the release of pressure when the old wooden kegs were tapped, similar to escaping steam.

“The HSU community is enjoying Six Rivers’ Tin Pants Ale! This limited edition, local brew is not only delicious, but it’s also a conversation starter and a unique keepsake. Students, staff, faculty and alumni are gathering together to enjoy the brew while telling their favorite stories and celebrating what it means to be an HSU Lumberjack,” said Courtney Harrison, HSU’s Social Media/Centennial Coordinator. We thank Six Rivers Brewery for adding something special to our Centennial year others can enjoy at our various events and celebrations.”

Tin Pants Ale is available on draught at the brewery at 1300 Central Avenue, McKinleyville or in 22oz bottles at Wildberries, Eureka Natural Foods, North Coast Co-op, Arcata Liquor, Hutchins Grocery, The Siren Song and The Local while supplies last. The first 10 cases are hand-signed by Sanchez. To learn more call (707) 839-7580 or visit www.sixriversbrewery.com.
