Brewbound is pleased to announce its first group of speakers for the upcoming Brew Talks meetup, happening on Feb. 24 at the Harpoon Beer Hall in Boston.

With merger and acquisition activity continuing to pick up in the craft sector, succession planning is becoming a much more important topic. Should companies stay the course, sell, and how should they consider the next generation of ownership while making those decisions?

That’s why we’ve invited a trio of experts on family business, entrepreneurism and private investments to share their insights on long-term financial planning for craft brewery owners.

Harpoon Brewery co-founder Dan Kenary will join Ted Clark, the executive professor of entrepreneurship and innovation at Northeastern and Derek Nemeth, a craft brewery angel investor and strategy advisor, in a conversation on the various types of exit strategies for craft brewers.

Is a generational transfer the best way to remain independent? Will private equity really look to flip a business in five years? What are the pros and cons of establishing an employee stock ownership program?

Answers to these questions, and more, will be on display at Brew Talks Boston.

Brew Talks — gatherings designed to provide craft brewers, distributors and retailers the opportunity to come together and have in-depth discussions on the business side of craft beer – will offer attendees an excellent opportunity to gain business lessons and network with other beverage entrepreneurs. Beer industry professionals are invited to join the Boston meetup, being held inside of Harpoon’s spacious Beer Hall, at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 24. Panel discussions will begin promptly at 5:30 P.M. and guests are invited to network and fuss over Harpoon’s beers until 8:00 P.M.

In addition to hosting conversations with industry experts, Brewbound will also be raising money for Harpoon Helps, the brewery’s philanthropic arm. 100 percent of the admission sales will be donated to Harpoon Helps.

About the Speakers:

Daniel Kenary serves as CEO of the Harpoon Brewery.  He graduated with Rich Doyle (Harpoon Co-Founder) from Harvard College in 1982 with a degree in American History.  He earned an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1985 while working at the First National Bank of Chicago in Chicago and Paris.  Dan left the bank in 1986 to co-found the Harpoon Brewery with Rich.  During a six-year hiatus from the brewery from 1990 until 1996, Dan worked as Chief Financial Officer at two biotechnology firms in the Boston area while remaining active on the board of Harpoon. In August 2014 Dan oversaw Harpoon Brewery’s transition to employee ownership with the establishment of an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP).

About Brew Talks:

Since hosting our first event in the basement of a craft beer bar in Boston in 2013, the meetup series has developed into a multi-city tour where beer industry professionals can come together inside of some of the country’s most recognizable craft breweries and share business insights with one another. In less than two years, we’ve hosted 19 meetups, in 15 U.S. cities, and connected with thousands of individuals from all tiers of the industry. The events are also broadcast globally via a free live stream.
